Wellbeing

At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.

Our Learning and Wellbeing Centre

The MHS wellbeing team ensure that every student is known, valued and cared for. Support may be put in place for individuals, small groups, year groups and the whole school as need arises. The Wellbeing Team is made up of:

- Year Advisors

- Learning and Support Teachers

- Student Support Officers (SSO’s)

- Wellbeing and Health In-Reach Nurse (WHIN)

- School Counsellors

- Deputy Principals

The SSO’s, WHIN and School Counsellors play specialist roles in supporting student wellbeing:

WHIN

Our Wellbeing nurse Sarah works closely with the school learning and wellbeing team. She also works closely with local health and social services to support students and their families on a wide range of health and wellbeing issues. Issues may include mental health, social and behavioural support, physical health, and peer or family relationships.

SSO

Our Student Support Officers (SSO’s) Katie and Andrew work within the school community to enhance the wellbeing and mental health of students, in partnership with the wellbeing team and the School Counselling Service. SSO’s also play a pivotal role in working collaboratively with external agencies and creating referral pathways for students and families to youth and family support agencies.

School Psychologists and Counsellors

Our School Counsellors Monique, Kylie and Louise work directly with students to help them with issues related to learning, peer and family relationships, and managing emotions such as depression, anxiety, worry or isolation.

They also work with teachers, families, school executive, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community.School psychologists at Murwillumbah High School play a vital role in supporting student wellbeing by providing professional expertise in mental health, emotional development, and learning needs. They work closely with students, families, and staff to assess and address psychological, social, and behavioural challenges. Through counselling, intervention programs, and promoting positive coping strategies, school psychologists help create a safe and supportive environment that fosters students’ overall wellbeing and academic success.

Year Advisors

Year advisers at Murwillumbah High School play an integral role in supporting student wellbeing by providing guidance, care, and a consistent point of contact for students. They monitor academic progress, address social and emotional concerns, and work closely with families and staff to create a positive and safe learning environment. Through regular check-ins and personalised support, year advisers help students navigate challenges and promote their overall wellbeing and success.
