2021 Ministers and Secretary’s Award for Excellence

Mr Howes with the Secretary's Award

The 2021 Ministers and Secretary’s Award for Excellence have been announced and Murwillumbah High School has been named as a winner of the Secretary’s Award for Outstanding School Initiative. Recipients of the award include schools that have developed innovative programs focused on student wellbeing, improving school results or changing the way education is delivered within the government system.

Our award was specifically for the work done in collaborating across Key Learning Areas and with students and increasingly with parents in our endeavour to inspire every student every day. This is the third year running that our school has received the Secretary’s Award which is an astounding achievement.

Year 7 Advisor and Stage 4 teacher Kylie Lenhardt, was a recipient of the 2021 Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence. This award recognises teachers who deliver the highest quality education to their students and contribute to their professional communities. Kylie is an exceptional teacher and Year Advisor.

That now means that five of our staff have been recognised by receiving the award in recent years which is quite exceptional for a small regional high school, demonstrating that public education can deliver excellence regardless of location. NSW Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said, ‘the 2021 awards highlighted the excellence underpinning the NSW public school system even as schools, students and teachers have navigated the challenges of natural disasters and a global pandemic.’
